There has been a rodent infestation in California's Central Valley (and the foothills, don't ask me how I know). The South Bay is far from the Central Valley, though. Maybe it's more widespread than we thought.

p.s. paint pail traps work. Even a pacifist can use them without water, but where do you take your captives for release?
