This line didn’t make a lot of sense to me until I did a little bit more research. They absolutely do have active radios, but they’re incredibly limited/locked down. For example, voice communication is allowed, but all telemetry is one-way so that the pit crew can’t do any sort of remote tuning/tweaking/etc.
