Their proposed workaround is to "download them to the app," which of course only works until you change devices (and might not work at all - my collection is too large to fit on any of my mobile devices (2300-odd books, 100GB)).

Fortunately, DH's digital books have always been stored (in Android, at least), in an "obfuscated but not encrypted" format which anyone with a moderate degree of Nerd Skills can access and convert to CBZ format with a small bit of scripting. Unfortunately, though, very few people know that. (Fortunately, i'm in that smaller group and always "backed up" my books right after downloading them. Ergo, i'm not losing anything, but most folks will.)

An Important Announcement From Dark Horse Comics

The Dark Horse Digital (DHD) service is being closed.

Sales and new releases ended on February 24, 2025. Users can continue to log in to the DHD website (digital.darkhorse.com) and read the comics and books in their bookshelves.

Beginning March 31, 2025, the Dark Horse Comics and Plants vs. Zombies Comics apps for iOS will no longer be supported.

App users are encouraged to download the books in their bookshelves by March 30, 2025. The ability to download to your device cannot be guaranteed after that date. For access through the website, users without DHD accounts should create one and sync it to the app by March 30, 2025.

Whether you are new to Dark Horse Digital or have been with us for years, we appreciate your support. We regret the inconvenience this change will cause and know you may have questions. Additional information, including our refund policy and terms of service, can be found on our FAQ page (<https://digital.darkhorse.com/faq/>).
