When you are interacting in this environment, people whose careers started before the .com bust, before 2008, and in the booming '10s have very different perspectives even where interpreting their experiences purely rationally. Times of distress dominate people's learning (both an emotional and a rational heuristic!). I've found it increasingly important to keep the timeline of these formative events in mind in professional discussions.
