    Probably related to this [1][2] and giving their government the ability to monitor traffic. Their tech-savvy citizens are still able to use a handful of VPN's but I suspect those days are approaching an end. Many of their Youtubers have already fled the country.

    The Russians will only see more of this as Putin cranks down on the thumbscrews. Any freedom they gained since the 90s collapse will all be gone in a few years. He has become the hermit dictator and will do anything to shut down threats to himself and his inner circle, the future of russia and her citizens prosperity means absolutely nothing to him.
