    I favor the line of argument that goes something like, civilization enslaved humans by trapping them in productive cycles taking long time horizons.

    The invention of social class, work for hire, and farming seem like pareto optimizations for the collective even though individual members seems like slaves. But they wouldnt have existed at all if we all hunted and gathered.

    It just seems easy to imagine that 10000 years ago the opportunity to simply trade some work at the protocity for grain would be attractive compared to wandering daily for food.
