    one option: only ever give out your e-mail address with a "+[domain or service you're signing up for]", ex. signing up for a HN account? kevin+hn@your-domain.com.

    Then filter out any e-mails that don't have that +[whatever] in. No, not a panacea. But can cut down a bit on spam.

    You may be able to install spam blocker apps for sms that filter on keywords. I do that for political stuff and it works pretty well.
