I've been writing code for the web since 2014, but by the end of 2016 I decided to shift my focus from websites to apps (frontend). So I made a list of the most common skills required for a frontend dev, and I spent most of 2017 learning/refining those skills and building a portfolio (https://lualparedes.github.io/).
I want to work in an environment where I'm required to work with state-of-the-art technologies and best practices. I associate this mostly with companies in the developed world ─specially companies in the US─, but almost all of the frontend jobs I've found so far are on-site.
What can I do to get an opportunity? I'm even willing to work for almost nothing* as long as the projects are challenging and the standards are high.
() DISCLAIMER ()
I'm strongly against the commoditization of something as valuable as web development, I'm the kind of person that either works at the right rate, or for free if it is for a noble cause or I'm bound to learn a lot.
However, I'd like to earn at least a little because I'm afraid of what could happen in my country (Venezuela) in a few months, and a few bucks could make a huge difference at that moment.
